CASA of Monterey County serves children who have been removed from their homes due to extreme abuse and neglect and placed in foster care. We are the only organization providing rights-based advocacy for these children. We accomplish this work by recruiting, training and supporting community volunteers who become Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). CASAs are an extension of the Dependency Bench of the Superior Court. They report to our Judges and are assigned to one or more specific children in foster care. CASAs befriend the child and watch over the child’s progress in their foster placement, at school, in therapy, and where applicable, in reunification efforts with their biological parents or original care givers.
